killing off been done to yet influence the spread of fly to any appreciable extent; I am, however, distinctly in favour of continuing the slaughter of the game in this vicinity and in the neighbourhood of every estate.

(7) In addition to the permits issued (specimen attached) to carry a rifle and kill game :- (a) A

number of Europeans employed native hunters (approved by His Honour), gun licences were obtained for such, and a free game licence issued (specimen attached). Each employer signing the " undertak- ing (specimen attached) regarding the issue of ammunition, &c., &c. (b) All Europeans holding gun licences were issued, upon application, the

game licence mentioned in " A.”

(c) Sixteen free elephant licences were issued as in "B" (15 animals were

killed).

(8) It was deemed unwise to encourage or allow Europeans to hunt game to the north of the Fort Jameson-Petauka Road, more especially in the vicinity of villages where sleeping sickness cases had been discovered; therefore, His Honour approved of the issue of the game licence free for the southern portion of the district. Europeans who live to the north of the road mentioned, or those having bonâ fide occupation there, are also granted the ordinary game licence free.

(9) Last year's procedure regarding licences and shooting is being carried out this year as approved by the Acting Administrator's telegram of 5th January last.
