(Received 19 May, 1913.)

[Answered by No. 152.]

Government House, St. John's, 29th April, 1913. REFERRING to your despatch, Miscellaneous, of the 20th March,* regarding the present position of the work of the Visual Instruction Committee of the Colonial Office, I am informed by the Colonial Secretary that he caused the matter to be referred to the Superintendents of Education, who state that at the present time they are not in a position to make a definite recommendation, but they hope that in the not distant future some development may take place which will render the use of the lectures and lantern slides of practical value in this Colony.

[Answered by No. 111.]

32, Fleet Street, London, E.C., 20th May, 1913. WITH reference to your letter of April 24th,† our Directors have again given the question of undertaking the production of the additional two volumes their very careful consideration, and with regard to same we beg to make the following proposal:-

That your Committee contribute the sum of £50 towards the cost of each volume, and, in the event of the first edition of 5,000 of each volume being sold, we undertake to refund the amount contributed.

We should very much like you to entrust the production of these two volumes to

us, but we feel that we shall not be justified in taking the whole of the risk.
