§ No. 55

«<

The number of periodical publications of all kinds likely to contain

useful material for the Review is already very large, and is being added to almost daily. The card catalogue now numbers over 1,500 entries of these something less than half are to be found in the libraries of the Natural History Museum, and may be divided into three groups :—

(a) Proceedings of small local societies which rarely contain anything of importance, and are received very irregularly. These will amount to

at least 100.

(b) Annual reports, &c., appearing irregularly or at long intervals--these will

amount to something like another 100.

(c) Journals of various kinds received by the Museum- presented.' A very large number of these, though important in themselves, are found to be so seriously in arrear or to reach the Museum so irregularly that no reliance whatever can be placed upon their being seen in time for the inclusion of anything that they may contain in the 'Review,' i.e., in a monthly publication intended to contain the most recent information;
