Fully 1,000 other men also own between 10 and 20 acres, each worth $2,000.00. There are another 500 who also own smaller holdings, at $1,000.00 value, and several others who own smaller property.
There is not a poor man (Indian) in this district; those not mentioned either have steady work on estates, or are contractors on estates.
Most of the people are time-expired Indians, and those who are not are descendants of time-expired immigrants.

Chambers, San Fernando, 23rd November, 1912. AFTER attending a meeting of the Finance Committee yesterday, I called at your office, but regret I did not meet you. I had the list prepared as promised, but found it difficult to fix the worth of the parties, as some of them are reluctant to give this information, and if I were to place the value it would be misleading, as I can only judge from appearances.
In this district the principal East Indian proprietors are Boodoosing, Mahabir Maharaj, Bhagwansingh, A. A. Sobrian, Peter Chandroo, Meighoo, Sirju, Dymally Meah, and Asgaralli Syne. The majority of these men are worth between twenty- five and fifty thousand pounds. There may be some in other districts whom I do not
