You will observe that the statements in regard to helminthology and proto- zoology differ by £49 (£24 10s. on each account) from the printed statements on pages 28 and 29 of the Annual Report. This difference is accounted for by the fact that, owing to an error of entry, the cost of alterations to the Special Departments, for which a grant of £50 was made was debited to the London School of Tropical Medicine instead of to the two Departments upon which the expenditure was incurred. This is really only a matter of account, and will be adjusted at the end of the year.

I think you will be gratified to see that the debit balance against the Entomo- logical Department is greatly reduced.

The only other comment that I may make is that protozoology has been debited with a sum of £87 10s. 6d. for microscopes. It is found that with the increased number of students in this Department a special kind of microscope is necessary.

LEEWARD ISLANDS.

THE GOVERNOR to THE SECRETARY OF STATE.

(Received 2 May, 1910.)

[Answered by No. 35.]

Government House, Antigua, 14th April, 1910. WITH reference to your Lordship's despatch, No. 34, of the 8th February last, I have the honour to report that the sum of £100 has been provided in the Federal Estimates for 1910-11 under Head No. 11, " Miscellaneous," as a contri- bution from this Colony to the London School of Tropical Medicine and the Tropical Diseases Research Fund.

2. The question of the distribution of this amount was left by me to the General Legislative Council to decide, as your Lordship will see from the 10th paragraph of my addresst (copy enclosed) to the Council of the 5th instant, and it will be observed from the 5th paragraph of the Council's adopted reply to my address that it is desired that £75 should be given to the London School of Tropical Medicine and £25 to the Research Fund. It is understood that this arrangement will last for three years from the 1st instant.

3. I beg to suggest that your Lordship should now cause instructions to be given to the Crown Agents to pay to the London School of Tropical Medicine and to the Tropical Diseases Research Fund the sum of £75 and £25, respectively, on behalf of this Colony for the year 1910-11; and that, in the absence of other instructions, similar payments should be made in April, 1911, and in April, 1912.

I have, &c.,
