Provided that the above-mentioned pro- portions shall, subject to the approval of the Secretary of State, be reduced to such an extent as the Governor in Council shall think reasonable in the following cases :-
(a.) Where the injured officer has con- tinued to serve for not less than one year after the injury in respect of which he retires ;
(b.) Where the injured officer is at the
date of injury within ten years of the age specified in section 7 of the Ordinance; or
(e.) Where the injury is not the sole cause of retirement, but the retirement is caused partly by age or infirmity.
Provided also that his total pension shall not exceed fifty-sixtieths of his pensionable emoluments at the date of the injury.

(2) An officer so injured whose length of service is not such as to qualify him for a pension under Regulation 1 service less nevertheless be granted in lieu of
gratuity a pension at the rate of one- sixtieth part of his pensionable emoluments for each complete year of pensionable service, together with such addition as might be awarded to him under the preceding part of this Regulation if he were qualified for pension.

13. Where an officer on first appointment in the Colony at or over the age of [thirty] was appointed to one of the offices requiring special qualifications mentioned in this Regulation and after spending not less

in lieu of a gratuity a pension at the rate of one sixtieth part, or one fortieth part in the case of a European officer, of his pensionable emoluments for each complete year of pen- sionable service together with such addition as might be awarded to him under the preceding part of this Regulation if he were qualified for pension.

If any officer to whom a pension has been granted under the Ordinance, or under any previous law or regulations, is, whether before or after the commencement of the Ordinance, appointed to another office in the service of the Colony, and sub- sequently retires in circumstances in which he may be granted a pension, the Governor in Council inay either
(a.) substitute for the pension pre- viously granted to him a pension
