The despatch has been referred to the Committee, and I am advised that they have decided to accept the proposal made by Mr. Brockman, viz., that an officer should be sent out to the Federated Malay States to study in the field the life histories, habits, and habitat of the ticks and insects collected by the local medical and veterinary officers, on the understanding that the appointment will be purely temporary for one year, and that the expenditure involved will be shared equally by the Federated Malay States and the Committee.
3. Steps will be taken by the Committee to select a suitable officer for this work, and when this has been done a further communication will be addressed to you.

2. Your despatch and the report of the local Committee which you appointed to consider the matter have been referred to the Entomological Research Committee, and I am advised that they are glad to accept the offer of co-operation made by the local Committee.
3. With regard to the questions asked in the fifth paragraph of your despatch, I have to inform you :-
(a) That the only modification in the proposals of the local Committee that appears to be necessary is that, for the present, at any rate, the identifi- cation of insects other than those of economic importance cannot be undertaken by the Entomological Research Committee. (b) That a pamphlet was drawn up some time ago by the Committee called "Instructions to Collectors," giving advice as to the preparation and forwarding of specimens, &c. Six copies of this pamphlet are enclosed. (c) That specimens should be addressed to Mr. G. A. K. Marshall, Scientific Secretary to the Entomological Research Committee at the British Museum (Natural History), Cromwell Road, S.W. (d) That the local Committee should communicate direct with Mr. Marshall.

WITH reference to my Miscellaneous despatch of the 5th of September,* I have the honour to inform you that Sir Bickham Sweet-Escott's despatch of the 25th of May, relating to co-operation on the part of the Leeward Islands with the Ento- mological Research Committee has been referred to the Committee for their con- sideration.
2. The Committee have decided to accept the suggestions for co-operation put forward in the letter from the Commissioner of Agriculture for the West Indies, dated the 6th of May. It appears from Sir B. Sweet-Escott's despatch that he concurred in those suggestions and considered them to offer the most practical form of co-operation with the Committee.
3. The question of enlisting assistance in the five Presidencies of the Colony, as suggested in the fourth paragraph of the despatch quoted above, will doubtless engage Dr. Watts's attention.
