The original estimate of the cost of pro- duction was £90; but this estimate was exceeded by about £24. About £14 of this was due to the use of a better quality paper, as agreed upon by the General Committee; the remainder was due to the following items which were not pre- viously taken into consideration: the printing of the advertisements and the heavy cost of the explanations of the plates. Professor Nuttall suggested that the Committee should appoint Mr. Warburton to be Entomologist to the Quick Laboratory at Cambridge, at a stipend of £50 per annum. The Sub-Committee felt that in the present condition of their finances it was impossible to make any permanent addition of this kind to their expenses, but as the amount of material was growing to such an extent, it was considered advisable to obtain temporary assistance for the Scientific Secre- tary, in order that a preliminary sorting of ticks, &c., might be carried out at the British Museum, before the more important specimens were submitted to The Scientific Secretary was professional entomologists for identification. instructed to make arrangements, in consultation with Dr. Harmer, for obtaining such assistance for a limited period at a cost of not more than £150 per annum.
