Enclosure in No. 59.

HONOURABLE COLONIAL SECRETARY,

Governor.

THIS Report of the Advisory Committee-nearly all of which I have carefully read with great interest-is in itself a rare justification for the existence of the Tropical Diseases Research Fund. I think it affords indisputable encouragement to the contributing Colonies to continue, and, if possible, to increase, their annual votes in support of a scheme pregnant with such valuable possibilities and adminis- tered by scientific experts who summarize and correlate the researches already accomplished and those in progress, and indicate the direction in which practical and economic advantages may be derived from the verified results obtained.

I have no hesitation in recommending that this Colony should further the good work by such contribution in aid as may be possible, and I hope that presently valuable evidence of participation in research work may be forthcoming from Trinidad.

17 May, 1909.

H. L. CLARE,

Surgeon-General.
