Mauritius-East Africa Edition.-The cost of edition, slides and apparatus would not be more than £100. One or two slides representative of Seychelles would be included.
West African Edition, the initial cost of which would be borne by Southern Nigeria. Mr. Mackinder explained that the cost of adaptation would amount to about £95 10s., and that sets of slides for Southern Nigeria and the Gold Coast would cost £40 7s. 6d. each. For the Gold Coast a more elaborate lantern with extra accessories was desired by the local authorities, and it was agreed that a similar lantern should be sent to Southern Nigeria.
Mr. Mackinder having explained that Sierra Leone was at present unrepre- sented in the slides, Mr. Lucas undertook to find out whether one or two good photos illustrative of the Colony could be obtained.
West Indian Edition.-For the West Indies, lanterns of the same type as those supplied to the Eastern Colonies would be sufficient.
Mr. Mackinder expected that the three remaining tropical editions, with the possible exception of that for West Africa, would be ready for despatch before the end of July.
Australian Edition. Mr. Mackinder stated that Mr. Hawker, a South Australian official had asked him for information regarding the scheme, and was hopeful of the Government of South Australia being induced to take up the question of an Australian Edition. Mr. Mackinder would supply Mr. Hawker with the information he desired, and anything further in connection with the proposal might be expected to reach the Colonial Office through the regular official channel.
Depôt Set of Slides.
Mr. Mackinder reported that expenditure up to the amount of £45 had been incurred from the Eastern Colonies Fund. This set would be the joint property of the Eastern Colonies.
Question of a United Kingdom Edition and of a Notice for the Press.
It was the general opinion of the Committee that the issue of a Press Notice should be deferred until the autumn, when the prospects of a United Kingdom Edition might be more favourable. Meanwhile, Mr. Lucas undertook again to see or write to Lord Strathcona, with a view to arriving at some arrangement with regard to the preparation of a Canadian Edition.
It was agreed that the date of the next meeting of the Committee, to be held In the autumn, should be arranged by Mr. Lucas and Mr. Mackinder.
