Case for the OPINION of the LAW OFFICERS and Mr. R. S. WRIGHT.
The opinion of the Law Officers and Mr. Wright is desired upon certain points raised in the letter of the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, dated November 13th, and subsequently set out in this case,
A copy of the Order in Council made in pursuance of the International Copyright Act, 1886, and a copy of the Newfoundland Act referred to in this Case is sent herewith.
The following is copy of a letter received by the Board of Trade from the Colonial Office:-
SIR,
Downing Street, November 3, 1888.
I AM directed by Lord Knutsford to transmit to you, to be laid before the Board
of Trade, for any observations which they may have to offer, copies of three Acts of the Legislature of Newfoundland, entitled respectively-
No. 20. "An Act respecting Copyright";
No. 21. " An Act respecting Trade Marks and the Registration thereof"; and
No. 26. "An Act respecting Pilots and Pilotage from Ports in this Island other
than St. Johns."

The following is a copy of the reply forwarded by the Board of Trade to the Colonial Office:-

I AM directed by the Board of Trade to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 3rd instant, transmitting for their observations copies of certain Acts passed by the Legislature of Newfoundland, and in reply to state, for the information of Lord Knutsford, that the provisions of the Copyright Act submitted appear to meet the provisions of the International Copyright Act of 1886.
Further communication will be addressed to you in regard to the other Acts to which attention is called in your letter.
