We were honoured with your Lordship's commands signified in Mr. Meade's letter of the 23rd of June last, stating that he was directed by your Lordship to request that we would be good enough to favour your Lordship with our advice upon the accompany. ing correspondence between the Board of Trade and the Colonial Office, in reference to the bankruptcy clauses of the proposed Colonial Judgments Extension Bill.
That it was not necessary to trouble us with the enclosures to the Board of Trade letter of the 19th October 1885.
That the question upon which our opinion was desired was whether the suggestions of the Board of Trade appeared to us to make it necessary to alter any of the clauses of the Bill, and that Mr. Meade was at the same time to request that we would favour your Lordship with any observations that might occur to us upon those suggestions.
In obedience to your Lordship's commands we have the honour to-

That we do not think that the suggestions of the Board of Trade will render it necessary to alter any of the clauses of the proposed Bill.
Clause 11 of the Bill appears to us properly adapted to the extension of the principle of section 117 of the Bankruptcy Act, 1883 (which section only applies to Scotland and Ireland), to India and the Colonies. It is not inconsistent with section 118, which seems intended to apply to all parts of the Empire. remain unaffected. It seems to us a misapprehension to speak of the Court in England being "obliged to surrender their own jurisdiction."
