LAW OFFICERS to COLONIAL OFFICE.

We were favoured with Mr. Malcolm's letter of the 22nd ultimo, stating that he

Temple, 8th April 1878. was directed by the Secretary of State for the Colonies to transmit to us a draft of Letters Patent annexing the Cocos or Keeling Islands to Ceylon, which had been prepared in consequence of the report of the Law Officers made to the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs on the 12th of June last.

That Mr. Malcolm was to request that we would take the draft into our consideration, and report to you our opinion whether it might be approved.

In compliance with the request contained in Mr. Malcolm's letter we have the honour to

That we have considered the draft Letters Patent in question, and we are of opinion that the same may be approved.
