That we are of opinion that the provisions of sections 27 and 31 of the Australian Colonies Act apply to the existing Legislatures of South Australia, Tasmania, and Western Australia.

Section 3, p. 4.-Omit all words after line 4, and add “Australian Colonies. Provided always, that no new duty shall be imposed upon and no existing duty shall be "remitted as to the importation into any of the Australasian Colonies of any article "the produce or manufacture of any particular country which shall not be equally imposed upon or remitted as to the importation into such Colony of the like article, "the produce or manufacture of every other country. Provided further, that no duties "shall be levied upon articles imported into any of the Australasian Colonies for-the supply of Her Majesty's land or sea forces, nor shall any duty be levied or remitted contrary to or at variance with any treaty or treaties for the time being subsisting "between Her Majesty and any foreign Power."

Temple, March 14, 1873. letter of the 8th instant, stating that he was directed to transmit to us the accompanying copy of instructions which the Lords of the Admiralty propose to issue to the com- manding officers of Her Majesty's ships employed in the suppression of the slave trade among the islands in the South Pacific Ocean, and to request that we would favour your Lordship at our early convenience with our opinion whether those instructions were right and proper, and such as might be approved by your Lordship.
