MY LORD,

No. 714. (JAMAICA.)

LAW OFFICERS to COLONIAL OFFICE.

Temple, May 31, 1871.

We are honoured with your Lordship's commands, signified in Mr. Holland's letter of the 26th instant, stating —

1st. That he was directed by your Lordship to transmit to us the enclosed draft charter to incorporate certain persons who had been appointed to represent the Church Commission under section 5 of the Act of the Legislature of Jamaica, "No. 30 "of 1870, a law to regulate the gradual disendowment of the Church of England in

Jamaica, and for other purposes." (Copy annexed.)

2nd. That Mr. Holland was to request that we would take that draft into considera- tion, and favour your Lordship with our opinion whether there was any objection in point of law to a charter being passed under the Great Seal in conformity with the

said draft.

In obedience to your Lordship's commands we have the honour to

Report

That we have perused this charter, and it appears to us to be framed in accordance with the general law and with the provisions of the Jamaica Statute to which your Lordship has referred.

We think that Her Majesty may properly be advised by your Lordship to grant it under the Great Seal.

The Right Hon. the Earl of Kimberley,
