Irrigation Works.

6. Slight damage occurred on the feeder channels of La Ferme and Nicolière.

The reservoirs suffered but very slightly.

Port Louis Supply.

7. There was no damage done to the Chlorination Works except lost materials.

The supply nearly failed at one time but the Sanitary Engineer arranged to clear the choked canal.

One of the new filters was put into commission and the system works satisfactorily.

The pumping plant in the bed of Grand River North West was completely thrown down. Fortunately the large foundations and the pumping plant fell over when practically submerged so that the impact must have been considerably lessened being cushioned by the water.

It is hoped that the whole plant will be salved and that damage will not be great.

Some 25 tons of coal have been carried away.

One of the boilers ran the risk of being carried away, the founda- tions being loosened.

Drainage of Port Louis,

8. Besides the usual minor blockages caused by heavy rains the sewerage works have not suffered.

The sea outfall remains to be carefully examined although it is working satisfactorily.

The buildings of the Drainage Branch have been slightly damaged.

9. My assistant informs me that the Poste de Flacq Road which was completely wrecked on a length of 100 feet on the 29th December, 1929, has again been torn away by a newly formed torrent 100 feet wide and 10 feet deep.

Vehicular traffic will be interrupted for some time and a bridge will eventually have to be built.

11th March, 1931.

L. F. REGNARD, Director Public Works.
