Enclosure 3 in No. 11.

The Honourable,

The Colonial Secretary.

I have the honour to report that practically all Government buildings have suffered more or less during the last cyclones.

Hospitals.

2. The buildings at Moka Hospital have suffered considerably but

as the wards and other buildings are very small, the premises will be made fit for occupation within a few days.

At Victoria Hospital the damage done is not considerable and the wards have not suffered much except for details.

The house occupied by the Matron and the Nurses has been severely shaken and damaged by the gale. The whole structure appears to have been badly shaken. I fear that the building will

have to be condemned and pulled down.

Civil Hospital has received a few blows.

The main building leaked very badly due to the damaged ridging and roof. The consultation room, Police ward, Maternity, water closets, outhouses, passages, &c., have also suffered damage.

Mental Hospital.-Much damage has been done to the old buildings.

Montagne Longue.-The damage is larger than would appear at first sight. The latrines, bathrooms, and dead house have been thrown down; Dispenser's house, stores, and outhouses badly damaged.

Poudre d'Or Hospital, Calebasses Infirmary, Flacq Hospital, the Leper Asylum, Mahebourg Hospital, Souillac Hospital have all suffered slight damage.

The whole of the Public Works Department Staff being con- centrated on hospital and road work, it has not yet been possible

ments.

to inspect all Government buildings occupied by various Depart- The Assistant Colonial Secretary informed me that Heads of Departments would be requested to communicate with me on damage done to furniture and buildings.

Wharves and Quays.

3. Wharves and quays have suffered considerably in Port Louis

and all timber baulks and sleepers have been scattered round and The salvage of old materials was near Labourdonnais Statue. immediately started.
