We are honoured with your Lordship's commande, signified in Sir Frederic Rogers' letter of the 17th instant, stating that with reference to our Report of the 16th ultimo,* relating to the constitution of the courts in New Zealand, and the prosecution of appeals to Her Majesty from that Colony, he was directed by your Lordship to transmit
to us a copy of a letter which had been received from the Privy Council Office to which 10 Nov. 1871. department our letter had been communicated, and of the Acts and Order in Council N. Ordnce. there referred to.
No. 1 of 1844. Do. No. 8 of 1846.
And that he was desired to request that we would prepare the draft of an Order in Do. No. 17 of Council as proposed in the letter from the Council Office, in case we should be of 1860. opinion that no legislation was needed in the Colony.
In obedience to your Lordship's commands we have the honour to
Report
That we think that legislation is not needed in this matter, and we have therefore prepared a draft of an Order in Council as proposed in Mr. Reeve's letter, reserving, how- ever, as suggested in our Report of the 16th February, Her Majesty's right to hear appeals direct from the Supreme Court whenever she so pleases.
We suggest that a copy of the proposed Order be submitted to the Council before it is finally adopted.
