LAW OFFICERS to FOREIGN OFFICE.

MY LORD,

Temple, February 8, 1868. We are honoured with your Lordship's commands, signified in Mr. Hammond's letter of the 17th ultimo, stating that he was directed by your Lordship to transmit to us a letter from the Colonial Office forwarding an Ordinance of the Hong Kong Government respecting piracy, and to request that we would take this paper into consideration and furnish your Lordship with our opinion thereupon.

A former letter from the Colonial Office on the same subject, in which Ordinance No. 9 of 1866 was enclosed, was also transmitted for our information.

In obedience to your Lordship's command, we have taken this case into consideration and have the honour to

That we see no objection to the alterations proposed to be made in the Ordinance

of 1866 by the new Ordinance now submitted to us.
