LAW OFFICERS to FOREIGN OFFICE.

Lincoln's Inn, September 19, 1886. We were favoured with your note of the 20th August último, in which you stated that you were directed by Lord Stanley to transmit to us a letter from the Colonial Office, inclosing a copy of a Despatch from Lord Monck respecting the Act recently passed by the Canadian Legislature extending to Lower Canada the law, already existing in Upper Canada, authorising the trial by militia court martial of persons in arms against the Queen's forces, and which Act was submitted to us in your letter of the 10th August ultimo.
