This Ordinance to cease and deter- mine on any person disproving the originality of the discovery
or invention.
When Ordinance to take effect.

any person shall, during the continuance of the said term of seven years, either directly or indirectly use or put in practice the said discovery or inven- tion, or any part of the same, or shall in anywise counterfeit or imitate the same, or make or cause to be made any addition thereto or subtraction there- from, without such consent, license, or agreement as aforesaid, every such person shall be liable to such pains and penalties as can or may be inflicted upon any person for any such breach or violation of this Ordinance, and shall further be answerable to the said Francis Burke, his heirs, executors, administra- tors, and assigns, according to law, for his or their damages incurred thereby.
IV. If any person shall, during the continuance of the said period of seven years hereinbefore limited, successfully dispute and disprove before the honourable the Supreme Court of Civil Justice of this Colony the originality of the said discovery or invention, then in any such case this Ordinance, together with all privileges and advantages whatever hereby granted, shall utterly cease and determine, and become null and void to all intents and purposes whatever; anything herein contained to the con- trary notwithstanding.
V. This Ordinance shall take effect and come into operation on the publication thereof.
And that no ignorance may be pretended of this our Ordinance, these presents shall be printed and published in the customary manner,
Thus done and enacted at our Ordinary Assembly, held at the Guiana Public Buildings, Georgetown, Demerara, this 14th day of February, 1856, and published on the 8th day of March following.
