Diocese of Jamaica.

This diocese was instituted in 1825. It com-

prises

Jamaica, Bahamas,

Turks Island,. Honduras,

Jamaica.

The Church Establishment consists of-

One Bishop and three Archdeacons, paid by this country.

Twenty-two Rectors, paid from the Island Treasury and Parochial Funds.

Fifty Curates, paid from the Island Treasury (called Island Curates).

A certain number of Stipendary Curates paid by this country.

The Clergy Law in force is the Act of 1845, entitled "An Act to consolidate the several laws relating to the clergy of this island, and for other purposes."

It will expire in 1859; but an amending Act is now before the Legislature,* the chief object of which is to reduce the salaries of the clergy, the equivalent being a guarantee of their salaries at the reduced rate for fourteen years.

* The Act has since been received. It simply continues the salaries at a reduced rate for fourteen years, leaving all the other provisions of the Act of 1845 untouched.
