Transportation.
IT is on many accounts indispensable that the Government
should come to an early decision as to the manner in which
convicts sentenced to transportation are to be dealt with.

have accordingly embodied my own views upon this important subject in the accompanying draft despatch to Sir William Denison, which I now submit for the consideration of the Cabinet.
With this draft despatch 1 send for the information of the Cabinet
the correspondence upon Convict Management which has taken place since the last papers upou this question were printed for Parliament. I propose that the papers now sent should also be presented to Parliament (with some omissions), but not until I
am enabled to add to them the instructions which must be sent

the consideration of the Government are those of Sir W. Denison
of July 10 and August 20, and that of Mr. Latrobe of May 31
of last year.
The letter of Mr. Kingsford, the Chaplain of the
convict establishment at Gibraltar will also be found well worth
reading.
