Circular to fiorernors of Colonies.
Downing Street, July 11, 1856. WITH reference to my predecessor's (the Duke of Newcastle) circular despatch of the 2nd January, 1853, on the subject of the Patent Laws, I have to state that the attention of Her Majesty's Government has lately been drawn to the position in which inventors, possessing Patent rights in England, find themselves when endeavouring to secure similar rights in certain of Her Majesty's Colonies; and that it appears desirable that they should be accurately acquainted with the requirements imposed on them by Local Laws; I have, therefore, to request that you will transmit to me detailed information on the subject under the two following heads :—
1. A statement of the documents required from an inventor or British patentee, to enable him to make a proper application for a Patent right in the Colony under your Government; and,
2. A statement of all the official fees and expenses required to be paid in each case.
