JAMAICA.
In the West Indies, generally, the repugnance on the part of the white population against a general association with the coloured races, on a footing of perfect equality, has probably served to establish a general feeling of indifference on the subject of the militia; but that feeling would probably speedily yicid to a common sense of public danger.
The militia of Jamaica is regulated by two Acts. That force may be called out when occasion shall render it necessary.
In the year 1850 the militia consisted of twenty- two regiments of foot and twenty-six troops of horse.

In June 1839, an ordinance was passed for calling in the arms of the militia, in pursuance of a proclamation which directed that the militia should not assemble until further orders,
ANTIGUA.
A militia law of 1831 was renewed by an Act which expired on the 1st of August, 1840.
DOMINICA.
The militia of this island is stated to be regu-,
lated by an Act passed on the 9th of March, 1833.
It is composed of three regiments, of which one musters 244 men.
The island defrays an annual charge of about 1.241. for the stuff of the militia and for the repair of
arms.
HONDURAS.
In 1846, it was understood that there was a regiment of militia, numbering 648 rank and file, and a corps of artillery 194.
But in 1850, in consequence of differences of opinion which arose upon a new Militia Bill, the force was disbanded.
MONTSERRAT.
In August 1836 an Act was passed for re-esta- blishing the militia.
1839.
That Act was repealed in
BAHAMAS.
In 1839, an Act was passed repealing former Acts and making further provisions for the militia.
In 1844, the Governor was enabled to organize a corps of 500 riflemen.
Governor Gregory, at the commencement of his Government, intended to bestow his particular attention upon the means of making the militia entirely efficient.
ST. CHRISTOPHER'S.
There is an Act for regulating the militia, but no
force is in existence.
TRINIDAD.
An ordinance was passed in the year 1837 for regulating the militia, and a further ordinance was passed in 1838 limiting the duration of the former ordinance to June 1839. The last ordinance was disallowed.
VIRGIN ISLANDS.
In 1839 an Act was passed suspending former
Acts and providing for the custody of the militia-
arms.
NEVIS.
On the 18th December, 1823, an Act was passed for consolidating the Militia Laws. In 1839 the
