Federated Malay States Forestry Appointments.

1. The salary of an Assistant Conservator commences at the rate of £300 a year and rises after three years' satisfactory service to £360. Half salary is allowed from the date of embarkation, and full salary from that of arrival in the Federated Malay States.

2. The Federated Malay States Forest Service has been classified as follows, but no guarantee is given that the numbers and conditions of the appointments or the salaries attached to them will remain unaltered :-

Conservator... (1) £1,020 to £1,200 by 3 triennial incre- ments of £60.

Deputy Cou- (2) £660 to £840 by 3 triennial increments

of £60. servators.

Grade I. Perak and Pahang.

(2) £540 to £660 by 2 triennial increments

of £60.

Grade II. Selangor and Negri Sem.

Incrementa can only be earned by entirely satisfactory conduct and work, and on the recommendation of the Conservator.

Rent is charged for occupation of Government quarters. Officers appointed to be Assistant Conservators, Grade II., are not eligible for promotion until they have passed the Civil Service examination for the Malay language and General Orders, and an examination in Forest law and the Land Enactment.
