3 and 4, Great Winchester Street, London, E.C., August 7, 1905. IN reference to our letter of the 3rd instant reporting the arrangements which we have made for retaining the services of Messrs. Wheatley, Kirk, Price and Company, we have now to inform you that two assistants of that firm will leave London on Thursday next to catch the P. & O. s.s. “India," sailing from Marseilles the next day.

Mr. Place, the principal of the firm, who has been in communication with Mr. Trowell respecting the valuation of the machinery and other matters upon which evidence is required, will accompany Mr. Trowell on his return to the Colony.

Government House, Singapore, July 13, 1905. REFERRING to your telegram of the 28th ultimo,† stating that the Crown Agents had arranged to take over the London Offices of the Tanjong Pagar Dock Company on the 1st July, I have the honour to inform you that the Company has prepared an assignment of the lease of the offices in favour of the Crown Agents, and that they will send it to London to obtain the landlord's consent before delivery to the Crown Agents.

2. The Company having received no instructions as to the terms which have been arranged, I have agreed with them that any arrangements which have been made in London on this matter are to be adhered to.

I BEG to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 5th instant, with reference to my nomination as Umpire in the Tanjong Pagar Dock Arbitration.

2. In reply, I have to state that the fee of £5,750, to include all disbursements, will be entirely satisfactory to me in the circumstances stated in your letter; and that Mr. Lyttelton's suggestion that half of the amount shall be paid to me forth- with, and the remainder upon delivery of the award, will quite meet my wishes as to the time of payment.

3. I shall be obliged if the first payment in question could be made to my account at the London Joint Stock Bank, Princes Street, City, E.C., as soon as may be convenient.
