Memorial of Roman Catholic Bishops against the
present Marriage laws of Ceylon
Views of Her Majesty's Government on the sub. ject of the Marriage Laws in Ceylon and Hong Kong
Request of Bishops Sillani and Bonjean that the decision on their memorial respecting the Marriage Laws of Ceylon may be reconsi- dered
Requesting him to inform Bishops Sillani and Bonjean that, with every desire to give effect to their wishes expressed on behalf of the Roman Catholic clergy in Ceylon, there is reason for dissenting from the views which were enter- tained by Her Majesty's Government in 1863 regarding the Law of Marriage in Ceylon
Stating that the first eight paragraphs of Lord Carnarvon's despatch No. 61 of the 13th March last have been communicated to the Roman Catholic Bishops, and that they have been informed that the changes in the Marriage Law which they require could not be effected
