(This latter amount, 24,7231. 2r. 9d., is not being distributed, as the House of Assembly adopted a resolution, Journals of 1856, 7th May, p. 465, to repeal so much of 18 Vict., cap. 2, as provides for the apportionment of the Fund, and to apply 75,000l. to the building of Gaols and Court-houses in Lower Canada, and it is understood that next session a measure to that effect will be introduced by the Government.)
