Hong Kong telegram No. 382 to Colonial Office. Nationalist soldiers.
There seems to me strong objection to sending any of these soldiers to Formosa to augment anti-Chinese Government forces there.
2. I also very seriously object to making special arrangements for Nationalist officials and their friends to visit Hong Kong at this juncture. Bargain of the kind suggested seems most unsuitable. Permission for Nationalist individuals to visit Hong Kong privately might be another matter.
3. Paragraph 2 of telegram under reference seems to suggest an attempt to constrain the Chinese Government to accept soldiers at a northern port. I am quite sure that this is not a profitable line to take.
4. I adhere to the views expressed in my telegram No. 335.
Foreign Office please pass to Hong Kong as my telegram No. 54.
(Copies sent to Telegram Section Colonial Office for repetition to Hong Kong).
