Dear Cleobury,
OFFICE OF THE HIGH COMMISSIONER
FOR THE UNITED KINGDOM,
6 ALBUQUERQUE ROAD,
NEW DELHI.
10th February, 1950.
Will you kindly refer to your letter POL. 19091/49 of the 29th December about the entry of Indians into Hong Kong.
We have approached the Government of India as requested (a copy of our letter is enclosed) and will inform you when a reply is received. In point of fact the Government of India anticipated our approach by sending us a copy of Colonial Office letter of 24th November to the Indian High Commissioner in London.
Although the Colonial Office Savingram No. 192 of 24th November to Hong Kong of which a copy was enclosed with your letter, refers to Pakistanis also, we have no record of any parallel approach to the Government of Hong Kong by the Government of Pakistan or of any consultations with our High Commissioner in Karachi about relaxing the regulations governing the entry of Pakistanis into Hong Kong. We assume that the proposed relaxation applies to Pakistanis as well as to Indians, but to complete our picture we should like to know whether the Pakistan Government also have been asked to screen applicants.
Yours sincerely,
Sgå. F. A. K. Harrison.
F. H. Cleobury, Esq., M.B.E., Commonwealth Relations Office, Downing Street,
London, S.W.1.
