SECRET

Dear Mr. Harrison,

COMMONWEALTH RELATIONS OFFICE,

DOWNING STREET.

28

February, 1950.

Would you please refer to your letter F/247 of 10th February about the entry of Indians into Hong Kong. I enclose for your records a copy of a letter dated 9th February from India House to the Colonial office on this subject, together with a copy of the Colonial office reply. We had not, of course, seen your letter under reference when the Colonial office consulted us about their reply to India House.

As regards paragraph 3 of your letter, the revised arrangements for the entry of Indians into Hong Kong also apply to Pakistanis, and our High Commissioner's Office in Karachi has been asked to approach the Government of Pakistan about then. Please accept our apologies for not having told you of this at the time! We have not yet reesived the reactions of the Pakistan Government.

Yours sincerely,

NEJ Emem чтет

F.A.K. HARRISON, ESJ.,

OFFICE OF THE HIGH COMISSIONER

FOR THE UNITED KINGDOM,

NEW DELHI.
