(59). The Ministry of Defence see no military grounds for objecting to the proposals.
(60). The assumptions are correct and the Treasury
therefore have no comments either.
(61). The C.R.O. have no comments on the present draft but are concerned about the possible effect on the Government of India of the original suggestion in para. 31 of (57) on the 1949 file that one of the nominated members should be of the Portuguese race if the elected members did not include a Portuguese. They would like the words "e.g. Indian" deleted from the last sentence of para. 31 before the despatch is published. The deletion of these words does not in any way alter the sense of the sentence and we might ask the Governor by s.o. letter to consider this suggestion.
