INFORMATION 14 APK 1949 REGISTRY
Dear Whitley,
(56)
I was delighted to have your letter of the 22nd March, 1949, and must apologise for being so remiss in not writing to you:“ recently myself. However, things here continue to be as busy as ever, with many new commitments, and no more staff.
As you know, under the new scheme for extending broadcasting services from Hong Kong, Willy Mak would be just the type of man for our Chinese services. At present, however, we have no vacant Chinese posts which would offer him the salary and scope for which he is no doubt looking.
Will you ask him to fill in the usual application forms for Colonial Service (I think it is a P.1, isn't it?) and forward it to us through the London office.
I suggest you might explain the present position to him in confidence, and tell him that although there is a plan on foot for expanding our service, in which he could fit, at present, as far as broadcasting is concerned, he would almost certainly be better off in the B.B.C.
wife.
Joan joins me in sending kind-regards to both you and your
