Dear Millar,
Thank you so much for your letter of 29th September 1949. Rather strangely, Oliver Whitley's letter arrived on the same day as yours, having come out, apparently, by sea mail instead of air.
Since you wrote, Mr. Eddie Au Yeung, one of our Announcer/Translators, is to leave here by air on Friday, October 21st. So far no arrangements have been made for him to be seconded to the Corporation, and he is going on a three-year contract, but the Hong Kong Government have suggested that arrangements for secondment might be made at a later date.
One of our broadcasting engineers, who is very well qualified, asked me the other day if I knew of any prospects of taking up an appointment with the Colonial Office in Nigeria, or any other African Colony. I said that I understood from Blackburne when he was out here last year that there were several plans afoot for increasing Colonial broadcasting in the African continent. I was not, sure, however, of any details, and I am writing, therefore, to find out if you can let me know of any prospects, either at present or in the near future?

If Oliver Whitley has not yet left the office, please give him my kind regards, and sincere thanks for all the help which he has given me during my two and a half years at Radio Hong Kong. At the same time I should like to reciprocate your good wishes, and trust that I shall be able to help you in any way that you may require.
Yours sincerely,
Darth.
