SIAM.

Appendix

1. In April, 1948, it was reported that there was a NEW CHINA NEWS AGENCY office operating in Bangkok. However, by June, 1948, this appeared not to be the case.

This view was borne out a month later, when an employer of the Singapore office of the Agency stated that there was no need of a branch in Bangkok "as the C.C.P. has an open office there", called the Siam branch of the C.C.P.

2. In March, 1949, it was reported that a branch of the NEWS AGENCY was to be opened shortly in Sian. However, in May, 1949, owing to what was stated to be "unpromising conditions there", the AGENCY was reported to have relinquished its intention to open this branch.

DUTCH BORNEO.

Appendix N

A delicate source revealed that in April, 1948, a NEW CHINA NEWS AGENCY office was in operation in Western (Dutch) Borneo. This was probably only & distribution office, as Singapore in the same month was said to be responsible for the despatch of 1,000 copies of the weekly bulletin to Borneo/Sarawak (see Appendix L).
