Note on Some of the Recipients of the NEW CHINA NEWS AGENCY Bulletin
in Holland.
In the spring of 1948, it was noticed that there was a great interest in the then present-day Chinese affairs amongst Chinese student bodies in Holland, This was the result of the seeds sown by CHIAO MU and KUNG P'eng in Hong Kong and carefully nurtured by LIU NING-YI (the Liberated reas' representative at the W.F.T.U. in Paris ).
2.
The secretary of the organisation called ROTTERDAMSE DISPUUI KRING, Benkelsweg 38B, Rotterdam, being unable in 1948 to obtain news direct from China about the situation there, received copies of the NEW CHINA NEWS AGENCY Bulletins from Raymond WONG. These bulletins were distributed amongst a discussion group, 3.
In January, 1948, a Chinese named KVA HONG GIOK, of 117III LEIDSCHEERACHT, Amsterdam, was in contact with Raymond WONG. KWA said that there were about 500 Chinese students, the majority from Indonesia, studying in Holland, wheạc only source of information was the "China News Weekly", published by the Chinese Embassy, which gave "a very coloured view of the situation"; consequently KWA thought it would be very much appreciated by the various student organisations if WONG would send them copies of the NEW CHINA NEWS AGENCY Bulletins. If WONG approved this surgestion, MA would give him the addresses of the organisations. A delicate source later revealed that WONG approved and received the addresses, though unfortunately source only managed to obtain two of these:

CHUNG HWA GUI, of VELLWYKSTRAS No. 10, Leiden.
(b)
CHUNG SAN HUI News Amsterdam,

In early 1948, Pierre TUYNMIN proposed to establish ".
'a bulletin to be drawn up in Dutch, embracing those parts of the NEW CHINA NEWS AGENCY weekly which refer to the shifting of conditions, social and economic relations, inserted in a form acceptable to the Dutch mind", The bulletin was to be designed to "satisfy the great and still unconscious want anong Dutch intellectuals and students of the Progressive Youth organisations",
5. In April, 1948, TUYNMAN had already found a publisher who was willing to prepare a draft plan for the bulletin, which plan was submitted to the HSIN HWA NEWS AGENCY for approval. The main aims of this plan were reported as:-
(a) to provide information, inter alia, about the organisation and
administration of the Liberated ¡reas.
(b) to overcome the suspicion of people against Communism by the
publication of articles by sympathisers in the Chinese Communist c cause, etc., etc.
(c) to increase interest in Chinese affairs, and especially in the
changes now taking place in that country.

6. In February, 1949, it was reliably reported that TUYNMAN had been in contact with Raymond WONG. TUYNIN and NA HONG GIOK are now said to be joint editors of the "China Leden ten dare", of Amsterdam. October/November issue of 1948, publication had to cease owing to financial
It appears that after the difficulties. In its place, TUYNMIN had organised lectures on the China situation. A centre of information had been formed and close contact was kept with Dutch Communist Party links and other progressive student organisations interested in watters affecting the Far East, TUYNMAN said that F.V. LOON, a member of the editorial staff of the "Algemeen Dagblad", Rotterdam, was endeavouring to launch an appeal for the establishment of relations with Communist China,
