Concerts, Movies, Daily News Service Are All To Stop Immediately

By the United Press SHANGHAI, July 15. United States Information Service was ordered today by the Commun- ist authorities to close down all its operations, effective immedi- ately. The order did not apply to USIS radio communications.
The verbal order was given to John Henderson, director of the USIS in Shanghai, when he was summoned to the foreign affairs bureau of the Military Control Commission today, a United States consular source said.
The order said USIS must sus- pend all functions, including its daily news service, library, movies and concerts.

The consular source said order was immediately transmitted to Washington and instructions for procedure requested.
The USIS Shanghai office had been functioning since the end of the Pacific war in August, 1945. It includes two daily news bulle- tins covering the world's news, with emphasis on Washington
events.
