opportunity to effect its escape.

Because of the irrefutable evidence, General Yuan Chunghsien pointed out, Admiral Brind, C. in C. of the British Far Eastern Fleet, cabled him on 27th July, three days before the❤ flight of the AMETHYST, and admitted that the AMETHYST sailed inij frontline areas without the permission of the Chinese Liberation Army, which had caused "misunderstanding". He made the same admission regarding the presence of the British Naval Vessels LONDON CONSORT and the BLACK SWAN.

It was evident, said General Yuan Chunghsien, that the statement of Brind still did not admit the criminal action of the British Naval vessels and slurred over it by calling it a "misunderstanding". The People's Liberation Army considered the statement by Brind unsatisfactory.

Three days later, General Yuan Chunghsien pointed out, the British Naval vessel concluded and exposed the insincere negotiations of the British Admiral by its infamous escape.

General Yuan Chunghsien stated that though the officers and men of the AMETHYST had shelled People's Liberation Army positions, the People's Liberation Army still treated them leniently. They were allowed to get their mail, oil and other articles of daily use from Nanking and Shanghai and to buy fresh fruits and vegetables from nearby villages. The People's Liberation Army men who found two wounded British sailors along the shore healed their wounds and sent them back to the AMETHYST,

But now the peoples of China and of the world have seen how the Imperialist repay good with evil, General Yuan Chunghsien added.

The officers and men of the AMETHYST have made their infamous escape by shelling and sinking the S. S. KIANGLING and many junks and killing hundreds of innocent Chinese citizens, said General Yuan Chunghsien.

He said "I firmly believe that the People's

Liberation Army and people of the whole country will never forget to avenge those sacrificed. They will never forget and pardon the two savage atrocities of the British Naval Vessel AMETHYST and its accomplices, the British Naval Vessels LONDON CONSORT and BLACK SWAN, and the deception of Admiral Brind",

"British Government, do not make haste in celebrating

the success of the fleeing of the AMETHYST. The whole case will not be closed so long as the culprits in the above mentioned crimes are not punished and an apology and compensation for the crimes not made by the British

Government".

Punishment must be meted for the criminal acts of

Cruiser AMETHYST.
