Following two items were published in North China Daily News August 31st and September 1st respectively.

[Begins]

1. The Associated Press yesterday indicated that it would abide by the M.C.C. order and discontinue issuing news reports after August 31st. In a circular to its subscribers the A.P. said in compliance with the new regulations announced by the Military Control Commission in Shanghai forbidding the issue of news reports by foreign news agencies, after August 31st 1949 we much regret we shall have to discontinue the issuing of A.P. news report accordingly etc.

2. To readers. Apologies are extended to readers for the absence of news from abroad. That is in accordance with the notification by the authorities published in these columns yesterday which read as follows:-

Since the liberation of Shanghai several press agencies operated by foreign countries in Shanghai had wound up their business of their own accord. However there are still some individual agencies continuing their news distribution. It has now been decided by this Commission that all foreign news agencies should suspend their activities by the end of August - the continuation of distributing news press releases after September will be considered violating of the regulations. In accordance with the above no news agency reports are published today. journal is petitioning the appropriate authorities for permission to cease publication.
