RECEIVED
8 JUN 1949 COLONIAL OFFICE
No.543
Secret.
Addressed to S. of S.
Repeated to Commissioner General,
Singapore No.180.
L.D.C. considers, and I agree? that there is no an urgent requirement here (corrupt gp.) one flotilla of M.T.B.'s, or motor launches together with crews and maintenance facilities.
2t Craft that can be provided locally and manned by Far East Station resources barely suffice to assist water police in prevention of a large influx of refugees. Against armed infiltration on a large scale more and better armed craft are needed; moreover, in view of advertised army reinforcements consider planning of any communist attack cannot fail to take into account that the Colony has (corrupt gp. - ? 200) alles of soa frontier and only
12 miles of land frontier
3. Commander in Charge of Hong Kong has already asked for this flotilla in his signal of 2306342 May to C-in-0 F.E.S.
