all in the pursuit of legitimate intercourse and
trade. But we cannot be urmindful of darker
possibilities and it was at least part of my
urpose in visiting the Colony to show those
who put their trust in us that the home country
lacks neither the will nor the meuns to meet
her responsibilities.
I left long kong reassured that the
responsible authorities are facing the uncertain
future with confidence and poise and that in the ield of def nce all practical steps are being
taken to ensure the security of the Colony.
