We have been informed by the Hongkong Branch of the Chinese Association of Scientific Workers that they have been declared by the Hongkong Government to be an unlawful society.

The Chinese Association of Scientific Workers, including all its branches, is affiliated to the World Federation of Scientific Workers.

As a part of one of our affiliated bodies, we have to say that the Hongkong Branch of the Chinese Association of Scientific Workers is pledged, by accepting our Constitution

"to work for the fullest utilization of science in promoting peace and the welfare of mankind ...."

"to preserve and encourage the freedom and co-ordination

of scientific work both nationally and internationally," etc., etc.

It is evident that the suppression of the Hongkong Branch of the Chinese Association of Scientific Workers, is a very serious blow to "peace, welfare and good order" and to the freedom of science and scientific workers, not only in the colony of Hongkong, but in the world.

We are therefore informing all our affiliated bodies throughout the world of this action. These include the Association of Scientific Workers of Great Britain, (President: Lord Boyd-Orr); the Association of Scientific
