Prime Minister, which I have assumed should be kept to the essential facts. I do not think that we need consult Sir Percy Sillitoe about the terms of this minute, but if it is sent I should like to inform

him promptly by telephone.

Further action on our part will be as follows:-

(a) for Mr. Johnson to get in touch with

Sir Percy Sillitoe on Monday to concert arrangements for their departure.

It may

be desirable to bring the date of departure forward, if that is at all possible, in view of the reminder in the J.I.C. that the present appreciation is that an attack on Hong Kong might start in September;

(b) to warn Mr. Coldney, the Scotland Yard Special Branch expert now in Malaya (14349/19/48), at 'A' on page 3 of No. 6, I understood from Mr. Johnson that there is not likely to be difficulty with Scotland Yard if we want to | ask for Mr. Coney to extend his Far Eastern visit by a couple of months or so to enable him' to go to Hong Kong.
