Please refer to your letter 14349/13/48 of 11th August, 1948.
We understand from our representative in Hong Kong that this matter is being referred once again by the Hong Kong Government to the Secretary of State for the Colonies. As you will remember, I informed you, for your personal information some 6 months ago that we had acquired some equipment which we were holding in readiness for this project.
We do fully appreciate the present difficulties which are involved in this matter. From our admittedly limited point of view, however, we should be very glad to see the questions settled favourably in the near future, if this is at all possible, as I am sure you will agree that the possibilities of intelligence exploitation in Hong Kong at the moment are promising.
