1. The following are some notes on (233). might perhaps be useful if we could discuss before deciding on the action to be taken on it.
2. The Chinese draft of the proposed joint public statement attached to (233) follows very closely (in part) a statement which was telegraphed to our Ambassador at Nanking by the Foreign Office on the 27th February with the suggestion that it should be put to the Chinese Government (please see 180 to 183). You will see from the minutes on the file beginning with Mr. Mayle's first minute of 28/2 up to and including the first paragraph
