1. Yesterday, the Hong Kong Goverment despatched

again a large number of armed police to the city,

who fired and used tear gas, with the result that

a large number of persons were injured. Whether

any of these persons has died from their injuries

is not yet known.

2. This regrettable action on the part of the

Hong Kong Government has roused great indignation

among the people in China.

3. This incident occurring at a time when the

Chinese Goverment was doing its best to arrive at

a satisfactory solution with the Hong Kong

Government is very unfortunate.

The Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs has

discussed the matter with the British Ambassador

in Nanking, requesting him to cable the Hong Kong

Government to stop at once all coercive actions

and not to despatch any police again to the

Kowloon City, pending negotiations, and to

liberate at once all persons arrested, so that
