PERMIT ISSUING AUTHORITIES

South East Asia Permits may be obtained by persons approved under parą 4 below from any of the following authorities :

(a) Civil Affairs Branch, HQ AIFSEA.

(b) The Military Permit Office, War Office, London.

(c) HQ KLOSZA LIAISON SECTION at LHQ MELBOURNE until its withdrawal.

Thereafter by the Joint Chiefs of Staff Organisation in Auătralia,

(a) Joint Staff Mission WASHINGTON, In this case authority is granted to issue visas in lieu of South East Asia permits. This procedure will allow a traveller to arrive at or to stop en route in British territory. In both cases immediately upon arrival he will apply

for a South East Asia Pormit through the relevant consular or permit office.

(e) colonial Office Representative in INDIA.

(f) The Chief Civil Affairs Officer of the British or Allied territory

concerned.

(g) The High Commissioners for the United Kingdom in CANADA, AUSTRALIA, SOUTH AFRICA and NEW ZEALAND. (For British territories only).

(h) Such other Diplomatic civil or Military Authorities in other

territories as may subsequently bo agreed and published as an amendment to this paper.

NOTE:

Permits will NOT be issued by the authorities listed above until the conditions of para 12 are fulfilled.

PERSONS WHO MAY OBTAIN PERMITS

Subject to the fulfillment of the conditions set out, Permits may be obtained by persons in the categories enumerated below,

For British Territories:

(a) Category A

Distinguished travellers and others whose

journeys are of the highest importance and urgency.

(b) Category B

Persons engaged in the following occupations:

Public Utilities and Essential Services Professions

Banking

Merchants, Brokers and Shipping

Rubber

Coconut and Pala Oil

Timber and other Colonial products

Mining

Engineering

Local Industries

(c) Category C

Former residents other than the above

(a) Category D

Persons who can establish reasons satisfactory to the territorial authority concerned.

(e) Category E

Wives and children of the above,
