I suppose a good deal of the lime we do get comes fron

China.

Dont you think it is obtained from shell and coral ?

13982

I know it is obtained from shell and coral, but I dont

know whether it is actually obtained locally.

83 2.

Dont you know it is brought across from the mainland, (3983

where it is prepared. Have you not seen those furnaces,

where it is made ? (naming Lime Kilns in the New

Territory)

A.

No, I have not seen the actual lime kilns.

It is nearly all ooral, and I have been them scores of

times, and it is brought in juhks and landed here.

That is the stuff which you see carried by these old

ladies in their baskets, and that is what we use for

limewash.

Lime used for limewashing would be eminently unsuitable

for a concrets. For limewashing, you want it as pure

and caustic as possible, and for concrete you want a

hydraulic lime.

13985

Does that not rather prove that our shell lime is better

than say stone lime, from your knowledge of chemistry

and your local experience. Do you know a lime called

Sai Kong lime ?

A

No.

West Rivar lime ?

13986

I know something of the chemistry of it, but I dont

know the technicalities of the lime used here. I dont

know Sai Kong lime.

Am I right in understanding that you think that the 13987

ligawashing, aa now oarried out, is of very little use,

except merely that it is an exause for cleansing' a

house twice a year ↑
