I think it is of some use, although I do not consider

limewashing is essentially a disinfecting measure,

13958

I am speaking of it now as a disinfectant. Do you think

it is really worth the trouble and expense, which is

incurred as a disinfectant ↑

Perhaps not purely as a disinfectant.

13959

You dont think it is worth the expense incurred by the

Government in limewashing ?

No.

Mr Lau Chu Pak:-

Why do you advocate limewashing, under those conditions?

Well, limewash mixing with grease forms a sort of soap,

and secondly, the limewashing of walls and cubicles,

which get greasy, does away with a good deal of

organin matter, or converts it into a harmless substance

It destroys the pablulum to a certain extent of all

microbe organisms, and it also helps to get rid of a

good deal of dust, and cobwebs, in which for example

the organisms of tuberculosis and plague organisms

might find a resting plase. Organisms of tuberculosis

are very difficult to pill. Plague organims are very

sasy to kill. The plague organism is not destined to

live for any length of time outside the body, but the

tuberculosis baccilli exists for a long time, and I

think the limewashing does have some effect in

diminishing the incidence of phthisis.

Is there very much tuberculosis here ?

Oh yes, a great deal.

13967

They sweep away the dust and oobwebs, before they put

on the limewash. They dont brush over them as you say.

A.

I very much doubt if they scrape the walls, first.

Well, they sweep before putting on limewash.

I dont think they do it very well.
